So my L72 valve covers, with brackets for wire loom holders on both sides, might be correct for ‘66? The only other twist I saw online is some Nov/Dec early built BB cars had the AC indentation in the passenger side cover. That stopped in January.
After looking online I see the passenger side 66 cover had the bracket but not the driver side. We need the experts to weigh in here.
The 66 passenger side has the bracket and uses a black plastic clip pressed on the bracket to hold the spark plug wires. The driver's side valve cover also has the bracket but it is not used, the spark plug wires also utilize a black plastic clip but it does not press on to the bracket, it is free floating as you mentioned above.
That’s exactly how my car is setup. Thx for the clarification. Somewhere along the resto path somebody affixed a Tonodowa Chevrolet sticker on the driver cover which seems incorrect. Did the rear of the passenger cover get the IP sticker on 66s?
My original BB 66 has them but they are more near the center of the valve cover, with one larger tab on the passenger side end. Both drivers and passenger side have a center mounted plastic spark plug wire loom, each holding two wires, and then the passenger side end and drivers side end have the larger tab which holds 4 wires.

To the post above. My covers have the mid cover tabs and clips. But I also have the rear brackets, one of which uses a clip as well (passenger side). I am now confused as to what was OEM.
My mistake and I just edited my response above . . I had to go out to the garage and check . .so yes two center mounted tabs and two rear mounted tabs as well.
66 L72 had a wire loom bracket on the passenger side, rear end, other upper side of the cover. The plug wires fit ina 4-wire clip with the rear most qire (#8) spaced about twice the distance to #6 as between any of the other plug wires on the passenger side. No bracket on the driver side. There is a 4-wire "free floating" wire clip that is placed close to the back end of the driver side valve cover. Both covers have a tab about dead center for a two-wire clip. It was the same on my 66 Chevelle 396.
I think we’re on point here now. Seems like my early 66 BB car might have an incorrect 67 driver side cover since it has that bracket. And it shouldn’t. A post above mentioned that they came with them on both sides but only one was used. I am not convinced of that. But thx everyone.

69L48Z27's car id exactly how mine is set up.
m My OEM 66 Chevelle valve cover for the driver side
Chevelle might be different. The way the wires exit the distributor housing cover does not align squarely with the bracket/clip so that’s why the drivers side is free floating on that side. That’s my “take”.
