Default Newbie Ford guy strays

Ok so never having been on a Vette Forum before it is certain all here are as much fun, kind and offer as much expert advice as that found on the Classic Ford and Toyota Truck scenes, my normal haunts.

So, bought this 63 Vert. 4 speed. Def a driver, pic does it much undeserved justice. Drives terrific. Packs a ubiquitous 350 but a period correct 327 came with it for rebuild. Got the original steelies and hubcaps which will replace the wheels soon. Marginal repaint after what was a decent front end repair. Originally Blue with Red Int. Main question: Need a correct hood, are originals hard to find? Are repops decent?

Maybe a question, maybe a statement: Coughed up $35k for it, am I certifiable?

If it’s rust free and a good driver $35k is a good price!

Welcome to the Forum! Looks like you found a nice car for a fair price. Original hoods are out there, but like almost everything for a '63 they can be pricey. Good hunting!

35k for a drivable C2 is a more than decent price if the frame and steel body reinforcing structure (the birdcage) are solid. Repop body panels can be quite good. The hood you have (67 big block) for some reason was a very popular mod on these cars. Not a thing wrong with those wheels, either. Makes it unnecessary to look for red, gold or while sidewall tires.

There's plenty of experience and knowledge on here if you want to put the period correct 327 in and have it look like it came from the factory, including if you'd like it to go faster than that.

Welcome Sir and thank you for leaving the dark side. I think you did well with your purchase and price. Off course you will have to do some work, but it sounds like you are willing and able to do that. The work will be a labor of love and there are plenty of folks here on the Forum to help you.

Keep looking around some more and see what $35K gets you in the C2 marketplace.
IMO you did very very well.

A couple good pictures of the underside showing the condition of the frame would make it easier to answer your question. If a solid frame and birdcage, $35k is probably a steal.

By the way there are several, also Cobra replica owners, on here.

Again, welcome to the CF. Include a pic of the underside of the hood. Depending on what it looks like can influence the selling price. Dennis

Yes, the seller suggests it was likely born with fuel injection but has not provided any documentation to confirm so. I will try to get it up in the air and post some pics from underneath soon! Thanks for all the positive energy!

Blue with red interior would be very odd and 63 trim tags can be confusing Can you post a picture of the trim tag. 35k is a great deal for a running a driving car if the bird cage is good

You're not the only Ford guy on here. Always route for the Ford drivers in NASCAR.

I'm a Buick guy for God's sake so all of this stuff is just as new to me. I'm almost a Spy within the GM ranks lol

I may not be a Corvette expert but I know how many pennies are in a dollar and 35K for a car like this that you can enjoy? And it drives well? And it came with a core 327 as well?

Yes, you did pretty okey dokey in my book.

If you can locate a GM '63 hood that is so much better than a repro for fit, weight, originality, etc. If your '67 hood is a GM hood, then it won't be difficult to sell for decent money to pay for the '63 hood. When shopping, keep in mind that the '63 hood also should also have two bright "cookie sheet" faux vent inserts and a Sting Ray emblem to be '63 in appearance.

welcome aboard
nice to see bipartisan membership, maybe there is hope for this country. LOL
Like anything worthwhile, the more you put in the more you'll get out, that holds true here.
there is a vast wealth of knowledge, experience and opinions on this forum. If you ask it will come.
When treated right and maintained, your 63 will really impress you and you'll thoroughly enjoy it.

also peruse the parts adds, you might find alot of stuff you need right here. Alot of members are mini warehouses, they may offer up things too.
Welcome, again.
