Default Why Foam?

I been watching Horsepower Warehouse's restoration of this midyear. This car has foam everywhere. It's in the frame and every body cavity, to the point where they had a hard time lifting the body off. The foam had cemented the frame to the body. Now I never heard of this. What's the purpose of foam in a Corvette? Please explain.

I’ve restored several cars that previous owners have used that crap to fill a void of rusted metal as a backstop to apply filler over to hide the rust damage. Never seen a car with that much of it. Maybe it’s holding the car together. Or possibly they were going to attach a trolling motor and make it amphibious.

Wow, Bubba was doing some creative engineering for reinforcement there. I wonder how many cans of expansive foam he used on that job.

I bought a Camaro that the floor pan was repaired with an old license plate bonded in place with roofing tar and coated with under coating to hide it. He also used foam behind Bondo. He put hard top rear quarters on the convertible and forced the trim on. BUBBA is everywhere.

That stuff will trap and hold moisture. Even from the surrounding air, you don't need to get it wet. Bad juju for rot and rust.

The car probably has a small correctable problem or three before they did it. Now the car's got dozens of big ones, I'm sure.
