I've tried to figure out the engine code without any luck.
its F1227R and that’s it
The other number on the block is 3782870

Thanks Jesper

Welcome to the CF. My source material shows the F is Flint casting foundry, 12= Dec. 27= 27th day, the R is a single letter related to an Impala with a 327/250HP, probably an automatic trans. Dennis
Hi Guys
thanks for your reply.
I’m still a little confused because the date code on the engine is L263 = December 26th 1963
the stampede code is F1227R = flint 27th December .
the cars trim plate says E14 = January 14th
the car is a 64
im thinking according to this time line could it be the original engine ?
according to some site Chevrolet sometimes had problem with the stamped number and didn’t match it up with the vin nr ??

Sometimes the VIN had a “ typo” in that stamp, But that was applied at the assembly plant, StLouis.
the “ F1227R” was stamped at the engine plant (Flint Michigan), and as mentioned, the code is for the full-size car line, NOT the Corvette assembly line.
What is the VIN that’s stamped on the pad? Show us a picture.
typically low hp engines did not have the VIN (except Corvettes), until the late 60’s, 1968…

the suffix code R was only used for that car line. corvettes used a two letter suffix code and would have a vin on the stamp pad. only passenger car engines with an advertised horse power above 300 got a vin stamp until 68 when all engines got them
I know that my motor is not original but the NCRS guy who inspected it for me said that it was from a '63 corvette and that it was a 300-hp version. Can someone tell me from this number is? 3872870 and these numbers are from the passenger side rear and front of the engine. 0283 at the rear and two numbers at the front: 3113329 and F041 bRD. That little "b" could be a 6 or just a small mark I couldn't tell. The heads are double humps. I dug out the Corvette Black Book that I had forgotten about and now I can read my numbers. the 3113329 a 1963 engine and then the VIN of the Corvette it came from. The F is for Flint MI, and the 0416 is April 16 and the RD is 300 hp. I forgot about this book that I bought before I bought my car and never look at it.
