The owner told a story of traveling with a group
of Rolls Royces and a Duesenburg.
A hubcap popped of the Duzzy and everyone
dove into the weeds along Interstate 80 to
find it. It cost 7 grand!! Reminds one of
3500 dollar finned brake drums. I wonder when
” Rolls Royces at Carlisle” .
An elderly friend of mine used to own a similar 1932 20/25 Rolls which I helped him keep in nice running condition. It was a beautiful car. When he finally became too old to drive the car he'd call me to drive him around in it and also to drive it in a few parades for him while he enjoyed the passenger seat. His sons just couldn't be bothered nor find the time.
Sadly, when he passed, his heirs had absolutely no interest in "that old junk" as they referred to this Rolls and the few other fully restored cars he kept. They couldn't sell them fast enough to grab that cash.

We kind of already have a Rolls Royce’s at Carlisle.
The Rolls Royce Museum is only about 5 miles from the fairgrounds.
It is well worth the visit while in the area.

They are impressive to see, to sit in and to smell. They are no good to drive. One year at an RM auction that handles a lot of pre war cars I watched a RR along these lines only even more festooned and impressive than the one in your picture go over the block. It hammered at $125,000. Minutes later a Packard of roughly the same year and size went over hammering at over $200,000. Curious I asked an RM executive why. He asked me if I ever drove a Rolls like the one I was asking about. I replied no and then he went on to explain that a Rolls was a well made truck. Extremely heavy, over built, difficult and unpleasant to drive. By comparison he said the Packard was easy, jewel-like steering, effective brakes and for something so heavy and lacking power assists it was a pleasure to drive. He explained that buyers want Packard and avoid the Rollers of this period because of the driving experience. Every Rolls was an antique at introduction save the 1965 Silver Shadow which was quite advanced but then went on to underpin every new Rolls and Bentley for the next 43 years.
If you want a chuckle, take a look at the pumpkin on a Silver Cloud. Count the bolts.
