Going to replace the block at the end of the engine harness where it plugs through the firewall to the fuse box.
Have short here
How are the 8 small pins at the end of each wire removed from the block???
I have never removed the pins from these plugs so I cant help you there It might be easy to do but if it were my car and there is an issue with shorting I would replace the engine wire harness. I have done a few over the years and it is the easiest of the harnesses to replace and its not very pricey. I comes in 2 parts. The main harness and an extension for the headlights. Also if you do decide to buy a new harness be sure to check the under dash harness to make sure the the short you speak of is not in that section.
It's not very likely you have a "short" in the block. It's just a piece of plastic. You may have a loose pin or corroded connection in the engine side connector, or on the back side of the fuse block that could be cleaned up or repaired. If you are having a problem with electrical connection and wiggling the connector changes it, try tightening and cleaning the pins where they touch each other.
If you have melted wires then you may have a short and replacing the block won't be enough. If the other wires are still in good condition and the large red wire on the upper left is the problem, you can clean that up, or more permanently bypass that connection with another wire into the back of the fuse block or to the headlight rollover circuit breaker. The fuse block is held in by two screws. This one is in pretty bad shape. In the last picture you can see that the fuse box has the cabin side firewall connectors attached.
