Get a helper to sit in the car with the clutch linkage all hooked up. Get under the car and in position to lift the tail slightly and push in. Tell the person in the seat to slowly push the clutch in to the floor. Unless it’s way, way out, it should slide it at some point like sliding a rifle bolt closed. If this doesn’t do it the clutch disc needs to be re-centered and checked for interference points.
@DansYellow66 That did it. Thank you. Had my wife slowly depress the clutch and it "bolted" snug. AWESOME! almost back on the road. Thank you very much. - Randy
That's what it looks like. Struggling to line up the spline. It was insanely hard to get the tranny back up above the crossmember, and into the bellhousing. Bought killed us! Its up and in but not lined up and in yet. Working on this today. Here's a video and some pics https://youtu.be/VpddKt-q0Hg
Maroon/maroon might be my favorite factory color combo. Awesone looking car.
Why didn't you replace the pilot bushing as Jim suggested? Always best to do it, but you will probably be ok.
Definitely considered... but... it was in great shape and didnt want to go through the process/trouble of unseating it... aint broke dont fix it was the thought.
Final steps... so getting shifter, linkage, speedo cable, and starter back in tonight. Any tips tricks, pitfalls? Hit me back and as always thank you for your participation. This bad boy wouldn't get back on the road without this group. - Randy

No, that’s the backup lights switch. When the transmission is shifted into reverse, the small rod connected to it toggles the off/on switch to on to turn on the backup lights.
So its all together, cranked up and... its different (which is to be expected. The clutch pedal has to be on the ground for it work. A lot of play so to speak. Any tips on getting linkage tighter? Doesn't appear to be "anything left" in the linkage unless I'm thinking about this backwards.
Also, how do you put this shifter back together? dang I didn't pay close enough attention I guess. The sleeve/insert wont drop down all the way.
