Stanly - Welcome to the Corvette Forum. Lots of people have swapped their original carbs for aftermarket replacements like Holleys or Edelbrock Carbs and they work fine but
there's a very good chance your original carb can be refreshed and put back into service with some cleaning and a rebuild kit. One reason to stay with the stock original carb is due to
the connections, linkages and fuel lines. The aftermarket carbs sometimes need modifications to the connections.
Can you give us some background on the problems you're having with the stock AFB carb?
And, pics would help too.

I have a Holley Street Avenger in my 67 L79. It's worked great since I put it in years ago. I have a 670 but they also make a 570. They have electric chokes, too.
A new carb means your stock air cleaner, fuel line/filter, and choke won't fit. Your existing accelerator linkage will work fine. You might solve whatever carb problem you had, but you'll create 3 more. Those 3 can be solved, but you may not like the solutions and the cost. For instance, I like the look of the stock air cleaner, and would not want an aftermarket one. You might be able to bend steel fuel lines to fit. But I can't. You shouldn't use a rubber fuel line under pressure and under the hood. I recommend you look into having your AFB rebuilt. There's lots of reputable places that do that. It'll probably be cheaper than a replacement carb and all the other parts.
The Edelbrock Performer carb is an updated AFB. You can swap the tops (air horns) of your existing AFB carb and a new Edelbrock Performer carb. Then you'll have a new carb underneath, and your stock air cleaner and fuel line and filter will fit onto your old stock air horn. You could probably swap the choke over too. But you might find it easier to just use the electric choke that comes on the Performer 1406.
I had a lot of trouble with my original Holley . I switched to Quick Fuel 600 cfm (made by Holley) and it works great. I had to reroute the fuel line and add a fuel filter. Now after sitting for days just 1 pump and it fires right off. Check them out.
Holley won't fit on the stock AFB manifold and the stock air cleaner won't fit. You can't use an "adapter" between the carb and manifold to get the bolts to work because it won't clear the stock hood.
