I'm right there with ya, always thought it was Big Slip Daddy and it sure sounds like that on my stereos--also knew that it means the limited slip differential. Makes way more sense than having the title when that verse is talking about what the deuce coupe has. But y'all do you.
Don't have it on my 67 and have heard that back in the day when they'd start leaking, it was common to change it out to a stock diff. Who knows.
Try as they might, those who defend the misheard lyric argument can never seem to find one person who used that term among the millions of hot-rodders and just plain car guys from all across America, nor any related reference in any car publication (Hot Rod, Motor Trend, etc.) at, or prior to the time the song was written, but there's no shortage of the use of "pinks slips" over the years.

This misheard lyric has been debated many times on many different car sites and the end result is always the same. It is most certainly "pink slip, daddy", confirmed on Wikipedia and even by Brian Wilson himself on repeated occasions
i'm going to go out on a limb and say Brian Wilson knows what the words are.

The Beach Boys peak popularity was just a little before my time. However, I had the Endless Summer album which came out in 1974, when I was 13. I also thought the lyrics were "big slip daddy" for at least a few years, and I assumed that meant positraction. When I learned the real lyrics, I thought, that's dumb, who doesn't have the pink slip (registration) for their own car? I was happier with the posi interpretation.

In California the Pink Slip (Title) to the car was held by the bank if you had a loan on the car. When you paid the car off you got the "Pink Slip" If you paid cash for the car when you bought it you got the Pink Slip. The registration was not pink and separate from the tille.

re: someone suggesting it could be a time slip from a drag strip. My post was to point out these guys were street racing in their songs along with Jan and Dean's songs and would not be getting timeslips.
