Default Looking for Lost Vette

I am hoping that you may be able to help me. I am trying to track down a corvette that once belonged to my father. During his lifetime, he owned four vintage corvettes. The last one was a 67,' and he always regretted selling it. The car had a blue exterior and blue interior when he purchased it. However, when restoring the car, they discovered it was originally white, so he had it restored to its original white color, keeping the blue interior. Sadly, he passed away in 2019.

It's taken me years, but I finally found an old registration card for his last corvette. My father purchased the car in the Washington, DC, area and sold the car in San Antonio, Texas. I contacted the Texas DMV, and the only information they could/would provide me is that a title was issued for his 1967 Corvette (VIN 194677S102940) was last issued on October 28, 2003, with an owner address that has a zip code of 79120 (Amarillo). I contacted the local Amarillo Corvette Club, and they did not know of or have a current member with that VIN. I also contacted the Texas chapter of NCRS, and they searched their database for that VIN and did not get a hit. I additionally did a VIN check on checkthatvin.com, with no luck.

This car meant a great deal to my father, who always regretted selling it. My father was a retired fighter pilot in the USAF and proudly served his country. His license plate was H1S6T7, and it was very much his baby and one he deserved for all his sacrifice I would very much like to track down this car and would appreciate any information you can provide.

My father with his car just after he purchased it.

I have had success in the past locating long lost cars by placing a reward type listing on several craigslist locations where the car might have been. 2003 is not really that long ago and this is the kind of car people remember. Someone will know where it is, even if it was wrecked and written off, not the most likely outcome but at at least you'll know. Easy cash is a great motivator. I usually place something like this:
REWARD! $200 cash reward for any info leading to the present whereabouts of this car: (then a description, picture, VIN, etc.)
Many current owners are happy to talk with previous owners.
Others have gotten lucky finding lost cars, Good luck with your search
Greg

I used Jeff Murray. www.vintagecarresearch.com. I took a year but he found it. I shared info with him but he’s not ready to sell.

Recommendation came from Jim Gessner. Jeff’s services cost $500. He started right away and had 2 previous owners I couldn’t find in a day. Would use him again on a euro spec Porsche 911 I had!

Sorry I didn't think to post this earlier. There is a "Regional" section for these forums, and I'd suggest you post something similar in the Southwest section which includes Texas: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/southwest-44/ I'd also suggest you put something about "Amarillo area" in the title. This might be seen by someone who has, say a C-6 or a C-8, a much newer Vette who would not normally be on this section BUT might recall seeing something in his/her area. Good luck!

Morley and Railroadman have offered some excellent ideas. Remember, too, that just because the car is not known within NCRS nationally or locally, it doesn't mean the car isn't in the Amarillo area. Many contributors and Corvette enthusiasts on this Forum are not affiliated with NCRS, so it doesn't mean that it isn't in the specific area you are searching. Good luck with your search.

I have a couple friends in the area around Amarillo, so I looked up the ZIP code Original Poster gave, 79120. It seems to be within or overlaid in the 79103 ZIP, and looking at this site https://www.zip-codes.com/zip-code/7...code-79120.asp it appears 79120 is for PO Box addresses only. So could be a dealer, or could just be someone who uses a box. Amarillo has some VERY wide open spaces around, maybe it's out on a ranch somewhere.

Default Working on your request.

I have a corvette repair shop in Amarillo…. Though I never worked on this particular car, I was contacted by a forum member looking for assistance!

Here is what I found so far… in 2000 the car was owned by a Wes Weismann. He attended a local Corvette Club Car Show on the parking lot of the Radision Hotel on Interstate 40. He listed as a non member of the club. My contact has a picture of the car attending the event, it’s white/ blue interior and has the license plate as listed above.

We are continuing the search on our end…. Looking for friends of Mr Weismann.

Good lead! Does the Texas tag follow the car, or the motorist? If that show was in 2000, had the same tag as OP listed, that likely was OP's father. Maybe the 2003 title described was when he sold the car?

And I must say I'm impressed with your recordkeeping - to have info on a car from 22 years back may be a big help now.
