How can i get this pulley off? I've tried everything that i can think of. I want to take the power steering pump off and there's one bolt behind the pulley that mounts to the block.
I'd wrap a belt around the pulley, secure it as well as possible, and then attack the pulley nut with an impact wrench if there is room.
Jim,
I wrapped a strap around it a couple times and used the upper control arm as leverage. It still slipped around the strap. However, I didn't use an impact. I'll give that a whirl tomorrow, if there's room.
Well, didn't work either. The pulley still sounds no matter how tight I cinch down in it. Back to the drawing board.
Thanks,
Dex.
I'm surprised and sorry that didn't work. It's my standard technique when I need to remove a pulley from an alternator or a generator. I don't even need to restrain the pulley. The inertia of the armatures is sufficient for the knocking action of the impact wrench to work.

Thanks for the help. I'm almost at the point of buying a new pump and pulley, except its Christmas time and my $$$ are tied up in presents.
Got the nut off finally. Wrapped an old chain saw blade around it and used a pair of vise grips to hold it tight. I looked and felt the pulley and there's only a couple small scratches to file, but they're between the pulley grooves. Now to figure out how to pull the pulley since it has a key.
Use about a 6" three jaw puller loaned from Autozone or your local parts store. Smack the puller bolt after you get a fair amount of tension on it. Too much and you'll bend that aluminum pulley. Or, if you had one of those fancy heating tools with the coil that fits around the nut, you could heat the hub of the pulley and it would probably slip off.

Thanks R66! My 3-jaw puller is too small, so I'll have to get a loaner....and I sure don't have one of those heating coils. I gave up for the night. I felt that I accomplished a lot just getting the end nut off.
