It can sit a long time...but knowing it....just make sure you use a thicker lube on things. Like genuine engine assembly lube from Royal Purple or the red stuff from Clevite. It's sticky and will not drip off things. Use a paste on the cam lobes and lifters if flat tappet. And then prelube it before you fire it.

A very long time as long as you lubed it and then protect it.
