Default Antenna Motor - NCRS

I’m getting some things fixed on my 65 convertible. My antenna no longer works and I need options for a new motor that I would like to be NCRS approved. He is quoting me $1400 for a new motor and install. This sounds crazy. Any recommendations?

Happy New Year, guys.

I don't know who HE is, but I'd definitely speak with someone else. If you need to buy a restored original OEM unit, you can get it from Greg Thompson for around $700.
And install it yourself. Your NCRS EXT judges with give it a smiley face..

Jack
first, NCRS doesn't approve, or certify anything. Greg's restored antennas do well in Flight Judging because they are GM OEM antennas.
His ad is on page 54 of the latest Driveline mag. I'm sure you are a member. 913-226-1626

As noted earlier, NCRS does not "approve/certify" anything.

Unless you have a fat wallet, when restoring for a potential NCRS judging you need to consider cost vs potential deductions.

There are 4500 total points in NCRS Flight Judging. If you showed up with NO antenna at all, point loss would total 20 points. (10 Originality and 10 Condition)

(20 points out of 4500 points)

A non-production replacement, while losing some points for Originality, might well cost much less. And being a new item, would not loose any Condition points.

Mapman

(And yes, before someone points it out, a hole where antenna would go would also generate an Exterior deduction. (I figure it was glassed over!)

One other consideration though is that the Asian made repro antennas, like the one he is replacing, might last 1-2 years, maybe. How many of them does one want to replace?
Buying the real restored OEM antenna gives one a fabulous piece of (expensive) USA made equipment that will last a lifetime.
