Default Point wear ?

Hi, I dismantled my distributor for a serious cleaning and to fine tune the ignition settings afterwards. Can you confirm whether or not the little hole in the centre of my point is normal or the result of wear?
(Standard SBC 283 ci distributor, single point). Thanks

That point set was manufactured like that. I believe that the idea was that design would have less pitting/burning of the contacts.

Yep, that hole is there on purpose.

Center hole allowed for a bit more ventilation and cooling . . . . .

That is not a Delco set of points, but is designed more of gimmick, that does little.. Fine for low rpm non-performance engines.

If you have a higher revving engine, recommend replacing them with a quality set from NAPA (Echlin) or Accel.

If pitting occurs on the stationary side of the point assembly that is an indication of an under-capacity condenser. Conversely, pitting on the arm is a result of an over-capacity condenser.
