If the seller of said car is a classic car dealer, I feel that the best case for you is that the asking price is near market dealer retail. A car dealer isn't likely to set thier price $40k-$50k under market value without there being a good reason for doing so. Having the car inspected by a professional such as Provette67 will give you the information you'll need to make the right decision. Good luck with the chase!

Was it repainted, ever wrecked, what documentation does it have. It’s a hard job if you can’t do it in person. So I’m asking questions on the forum. I used your chart to assess value and came out $104k
If a dealer is offering it for 105,000.00 then its not a real 435. these Corvettes are selling for 160 to 300,000.00.

No it’s not an L71, 435 hp. I never said it was, it’s a L68, 400hp. I realize the difference in price.

105k is still to cheap for a L68 if it’s real with docs. A questionable car maybe at that price but that sure is not a “investment” type buy.

Dave - There's another 67 L68 for sale not too far from you, if you wanted to look one over. It is Goodwood Green over Black Coupe and being sold by a dealer up in Rio Linda for $120K. They claim it's the original block that's been lightly decked but
unfortunately, it looks like someone took a disc sander to the front pad. 1967 Chevrolet Corvette | eBay

definitely get it inspected if you can’t do it yourself, or don’t what to look for .

Id also be aware that a car dealer is looking for profit, it’s a business. I doubt they are asking below value. If anything, probably asking above market value (room for negotiation)….

In the end, if it’s truly below market value, it will be gone quickly, if not already…

buyer beware…. Good luck…

so I have to use an independent person to check it out, before I pull the trigger.
The most correct statement in this thread if you ad "knowledgeable" before independent.

[QUOTE[The car was purchased from a private collection by a "reputable classic car company"][/QUOTE]

I'm sure its possible, but IMHO that statement is an oxymoron.

Most likely get flames for this, but car dealers of any type are in the business to make money. Buying any car is truly a "caveat emptor" situation.

Ya know, theres too many things needing checked out before I drop $105k and it can’t be done adequately unless I’m there. So I’m afraid someone else will have the chance kick the tires. I will look locally. Thank you all for your much valued opinions.

Buy a C2 for personal enjoyment not
as a investment. There are many other
options to explore for investment growth.
Buy a C2 and drive the hell out of it, as if
you are 20 again.
Good luck

In case you're considering other C2's -
I think this one could be considered an investment class C2 - for a few more bucks:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/

This one now states "No longer for sale, didn’t get a high enough offer, so decided to just drive it. Thanks for your interest." But for the right price perhaps it could be had - and his price already seemed very fair.

Most Dealers usually don't buy but take cars on Consignment. If they are asking $105k they either bought it for under $75k or it is on consignment with the owner asking about the same.

"reputable classic car company" is an oxymoron. They are all just used car dealers IMO

Also consider price guides with a grain of salt and they base prices on published cars sold by dealers whereas the true market would need to include private party sales.

The price guide I gave a link to in this thread does just that.

So how does that work? In the past 2 years I've purchased 3 C2s. I have also sold 2 private party.

How in the world do the price guide entities have a clue as to what I bought and sold and how much I paid or sold for?

If you read the guide they will tell you how they arrive at their prices.

Yes Pat, thank you for showing me around your set up. So organized and well thought out. Can’t wait to see the finished 63. It should win a boat load of awards if you were inclined to show it. See you again soon.
