Default Side Pipe Questions

Will Stainless Steel Works headers bolt up to factory pipes? Also is it possible to run straight, unchambered, pipes under stock covers?

I dont know of any header maker who has headers that bolt to another manufactures product. You normally have to cut the pipe at the correct location and weld the flange on, then bolt the unit up to the header collector. You might call Allen's exhaust and ask if they can make a special set for you without any internal baffels, but I don't think you would like the major noise. Good luck!

Straight, unchambered sidepipes are definitely MAJOR NOISE, especially when they're 4" in diameter like mine were; cops have little tolerance (or sense of humor) with REALLY LOUD exhaust. I drove it 200 miles each way to the 1996 "Run-n-Gun" at Norwalk and back, and ear plugs were definitely a necessity :steering:

I've got 2.5" unchambered side pipes. NASCAR loud!! I made some baffles. Still louder than uncovered ears can stand for much more than 1/2 hour or so. The same O.D. pipes as OEM sides will obviously fit behind stock covers. You may get 3" under there and if you cut the 'glas shields out 4" will fit.

I was thinking of having custom stainless steel pipes attached to the ss works headers. I didn't want chambered pipes b/c of the restriction.

A few years back I had to put my car in storage midway through installing headers and side pipes (so far I just had the headers on, no mufflers). I was driving 2 miles over to a friend's house. There was a funeral home that I passed by on the way. Cop on motorcycle outside waiting for the motorcade decided my car was a little too loud; had a hard time convincing him I was only driving it a couple miles down the road to store it for a few months. He let me go, but did admit it sounded pretty mean.
