Default 67 L-79 Distributor Question

I was setting the ignition timing on my 67 L-79 and took off the distributor cap and noticed two very small square magnets on the side of the distributor ( see photo). Any idea what these magnets are? Appreciate any insight.

Is this the first time you have seen these? Never seen anything like that before. Are they attached to the breaker plate or the base? They are not stock. Dennis

Maybe if the wire is broken that grounds the breaker plate to the vacuum advance screw (distributor body) is missing/broke then they provide a ground path for the primary ignition circuit.

Could those be magnets from a previous pertronix unit?

You beat me to it. I think that's exactly what they are.

Thanks for the replies. Since the magnets are clearly not stock, I’m going to remove them and move forward.
