It isn't easy, but you CAN get a box end wrench on the top nut. A little yoga or a bit younger helps.

It looks like a 5/8 from what I can see correct?
I'm going to cut a box end wrench down and see if I can get it over the stem
Maybe a strap wrench will turn the shock body?
Thanks

I believe it is 5/8, but the car is up for the winter so I cannot check. Assuming you are replacing the shocks, water pump (channel lock) pliers works great to hold body, but it sure won't be reusable!

Hi all,
Good morning. Just another day in Paradise and only 21 days til Spring.... I just replaced mine. To make it easier remove the bottom of the shock first, spray penetrating oil on the top bolt and threads, place box end on the nut (as you can see you have no room for a wrench throw), grasp the top shock body and twist.. Reverse the above to put on new one... Gloves help protect your knuckles... Have a wonderful day. The ride is sure worth the work. My old ones were dead dead dead.
