i don't have desktop dyno, so i thought i'd see if anyone might have an opinion on how to build up a really strong motor. let's assume our car is around 2100 or so pounds. how much hp would be needed to:
1. do 0-60 in around 3.2 clicks, and 2. do 0-100-0 in 13.2 clicks
other than NOS and/or forced induction, what's the most hp a sb can produce and still be built and run by someone outside a NASCAR team, without breaking itself into tiny bits every weekend? what kind of gearing and braking would produce the numbers above? thanks all
Hmmm, not sure whassup but here's my thought. You're talking about a car that weighs in about 1000 lbs less than a mid-year vette and they will run close to those numbers (with street slicks) using the 365/375 hp engines of the day. I believe the vette books say 14.2 for the 1/4 mile. I've run quicker than that in mine by a almost second without NOS on DOT radials. A rule of thumb is .1 of a second per 100 lbs. I figure 350 hp would do it easily with that weight and good tires. The sbc can easily get this type of hp and run forever. Just my opinion, hope this helps.
0-100-0 in 13.2 is Viper or 427 Cobra territory, and depends as much on tires and brakes as it does on power. My 2340# Grand Sport ran 12.40's @ 118 with a 430hp 383 and an M-21 with a 3.08 cruise axle on street tires, and my last Cobra (2280#) with a 400hp 351 Windsor, Top-Loader, and 3.36 ran 12.60's @ 116 on street tires. 0-100-0 in 13.2 takes LOTS of power, brakes, and tires.
:steering:
A 327 with all GM parts and a single 4 bore would run forever with only street rod weight could easily do those figures. In fact my 23 T weighing at at 1600 lbs and a 289 Ford with a Ford Tri power and soilid lifter cam and 10-1 compression ran 11.5 at 119mph with a C4 trans. At most it`s only producing 300HP if that. :D
hi john,
it's funny you refer to the cobra. the numbers that i've used are the published stats for a '65 427 cobra. i'm wondering what kind of car build up(engine, tires, brakes, suspension, etc.) would be necessary in a midyear to match it.
also, i called d&d corvette in akron. the number's been disconnected. i also called mid america industries, i'm on the phone with them now. do you know anything about d&d?
I built mine from a D&D basic kit back in 1995-1996; Dean went out of business several months ago. Mid-America is currently the only outfit making Grand Sport replicas.
