Default Electronics testing set-up

I have been testing headlight motors, horns and am now working on the wiper motor. I have been using an old battery charger to test things, but I was wondering what you pros and hobbyists are using. Car battery? Charger? DC power supply?

thanks for your input

An old battery charger works just fine. Keep doing what you're doing. A trickle charger may not work. It's internal circuits keep it from applying power ls across the terminals if the load gets too small.

I use a battery or 12vdc 30 amp regulated power supply depending on what I am testing. Motors and heavy draw components, I generally use a battery as I have 5 or 6 on the bench in the winter on chargers and have a set of jumpers with a fuse holder made up of 12 ga wire to power from batteries when working in the garage or shop. The cheap 30 amp regulated power supply is adjustable voltage (up to 30vdc) and I put fuse holders on the output readouts on it to monitor the power out. I bought it off Amazon for working on old stereo gear, CBs, car radios, etc. I don't push it to the max as it is China Sheet of course.
