I installed an original 1966 power brake system in my 1966 Roadster a few months back, maybe it's been a year or so. I couldn't find any information on how to install the little stop light switch tab on the brake pedal arm, but I think I figured it out, but the stop light/ brake light switch never really lined up on the new tab properly.
Lately the brake lights have been staying on. I crawled under the dash and found the piston on the switch is completely missing the tab on the pedal arm.
It looks like I have an aftermarket stop light switch, maybe thats part of the issue, but I also wonder if my stop light switch bracket/tab is bent?
I forgot to ask if there were any suggestions for where I could find a better quality replacement? The plastic unit I have now has a hollow piston and it feels flimsy.
I have this same situation. I noticed when I looked out in the garage the brake lights were on. I have a plastic switch aftermarket also. Interested in what others have to say.
Yes, the mounting tab on your brake pedal arm is bent...should be straight. The hole in the tab should be in line with the brake pedal arm. You can see in your first picture of the switch where the plunger has worn away from being misaligned. Not sure how or why the tab got bent but a BFH should be able to remedy the issue.
A much better quality switch is available from NAPA.
I have what I believe to orig from my '66 along with the PB thingy
It was working when removed as I was installing a line pressure switch
It's yours (thread starter) if you want it -- send me a PM.
Good Morning,
I have that striker and it was installed but I do not think I had it installed properly the first time. There aren't any instructions to tell you which side of the pedal arm it goes on. The way I installed it, it would just barely catch the edge of the striker which is what caused the edge of that pint to wear out.

Thank you @vark_wso - I had my 'tab' on the other side of the pedal. I can make this swap tonight after I do some deep yoga stretches to get inverted under that dash again.

Take five minutes to remove the driver's seat first (two bolts). Makes life under the dash so much easier.
