Default Project update tear down progress

Well it’s been a while since i posted an update so I thought I would share some progress. Moved the 63 chassis in the garage displacing my wife now that we have some better weather. I removed all of the suspension, steering, and lines. I had to cut off a rear shock mount that appeared to replaced at some time which was at a bad angle. I couldn’t believe the rear TA shims. They were slotted at the pivot bolt end and were not captured by the lower pocket in the frame. Apparently just rust and the nut and bolt holding them in place. The front coil springs were not indexed in the lower control arm seat and the upper control arms had no shims. Spring removal went smoothly with a coil spring compressor. I also cut off the rear trailing arm bump stop bracket’s flush with the frame to make room for the Wilwood disc brakes and offset trailing arms.

Next steps cut the transmission crossmember and weld in the aftermarket kit to make the center removable.

I did research the later factory removable crossmember it was a serious contender but the biggest obstacle from what learned is welding the perches on for the horizontal bolt is easy but installing threads in the bottom off the frame for the vertical bolts is a chore. A factory look and piece would be great but not necessary on my build. Thanks for the thought

Congrats on getting back on the project. Either crossmember method works. Took about 5 hours to do the C3 method on mine. The only headaches I had on the Ridetech stuff was the breather on my Muskegon diff cover didn’t line up with the Ridetech crossmember. Not an issue with a factory diff cover. The other was routing the brake lines and parking brake cable. I don’t know if that is a common problem or just my luck.

Edit. I thought you said Ridetech arms but you didn’t so disregard my Ridetech comments as I haven’t had my caffeine this morning.

Re: Front spring indexing

The front springs are indexed on the upper spring pocket.
