Default Luggage stop

I have 1963 Coupe and does not have a luggage stop. Is this unusual? Thanks.

So the entire metal panel is missing? I have never know of one missing unless it was removed for some body fiberglass repair and never reattached. I hope your car is not one that has had a rear clip attached due to accident damage. Dennis

Better buy one from one of the vendors and put it in before you 'butt' falls through the floor...

Isn't the luggage stop a component of stiffening the door striker jamb posts from lateral racking? Perhaps I'm mistaken?

it's part of the inner structure of the car and plays a huge rule as stated above

More critical for birdcage stability in a convertible where it’s welded, in than in a coupe where it# all riveted. But important for the floor pan in both.

There are some very good video's on the subject of tightening and replacing the cargo stop panel...... Bucking rivets to attach the stop with the body on the frame will be challenging. I would chose to purchase an air Rivet gun, personnally....I've had the honor to tighten two stops on Coupes............Have the beer handy!!

Are you talking about the raised portion right behind the seats?

Are you missing both pieces? 63 Coupe had a short piece about 2 inches high from one end to the other riveted to the floor and then a second larger piece about 6 inches high that went all the way across also above it.

If he needs the correct luggage stop for a 63 coupe, I don't believe it has ever been reproduced. Roy

FYI- This was an older design concept... from a July 1962 'New Product Information' booklet.

The lower piece has not been reproduced. The upper piece is available but you need the lower piece to go with it if he’s missing it, I know where there is one hanging in someone’s garage.

Here is a picture of the two pieces that you need for a 63 and a picture of where it goes.

I have say, I have not heard of that early 63 feature before. Was that in both convertibles and coupes? Thanks.

When I got my car, a '67', the luggage stop was there but not secured properly. Also, it looked beat up pretty bad. I got another one from a Corvette Vendor. What I did, was while the car was on my lift (kwik Lift), I put a level across the fiberglass area where the L/stop goes. I jacked that area up from underneath to where there was no sag in the fiberglass floor pan area. I then drilled and installed bolts with heads that were really shallow, can't remember the name of the bolts but back then John 'Z' had recommended them for that particular area. You just can't buck rivets in that area properly with the body on the frame. I placed the bolts from the outside under the car and secured them with self locking nuts and washers inside. Since there under the carpet, there out of sight. Using the factory manual, I tried to use the existing holes but also added a few pop rivets in the end. It made a big difference in the ride quality.

I used weld bolts and nuts in place of the rivets. I added 3 layers of glass since my car got a different backend and I was worried about the thickness and not enough rivet head to hold forever.
