I had dinner with my daughter and grandkids on Sunday. AJ, my 13 year old grandson, asked if I had any projects on the corvettes he could help with. I replied that they were all good and for now I didn't have any.

This morning the water pump blew on the '65 a/c car. I knew i should have not said anything..

So the gas station I use has a '52 MGTD that just came out of 10-12 year garage storage. Engine turns, wheels are locked up I picked it up cheap and it will be our project. He grew up around Austin Healeys as well as corvettes. Car is very basic and it should be a fun project after the water pump in the vette. No pictures yet but I will post them for those that are interested.

AJ and the head from my 53 Healey. He helped torque it down but couldn't do more than 50lbs. That was 2 years ago.

Its time for you to have a serious discussion with your daughter about getting that kid a project. It does not have to be a corvette. He is interested in working on a car or truck. SBC is one of the best places to start to learn. Pick up an engine and have him tear it down then rebuild. Build a vehicle around it.

Today, my youngest son is going to put some hours in at my friend's speed shop mainly start cleaning up and putting inventory on the shelf. I told my son to ask for credit only so he can help get his brother's 1966 C30 flat bed LS swap running. He is not really an employee just willing to help clean up the sales floor. My buddy gets quite busy with busy work finding hard parts that the people need right now that they tried to find at summit.

As mean joke, I bought him a Summit hat once... He did not think it was funny. My buddy used to manage Super Shops in the bay area. He broke off when things started to go south in the late 80s.

You are a lucky guy, give him something to do and teach him what you know that he is willing to learn

I'm around the age now that I fondly recall my grandfather being when he became my mentor for working with my hands and with tools. He was like a second father to me and taught me a lot - not all of it about which was working with tools. He's been gone now 30 years and it's rare the day that I don't recall him fondly, admire something he made or gave to me, use some skill he taught me, or reflect on valuable life lessons he shared. We named a son after him.

What a fine looking grandson you have Joe. I am so glad that he will be in line to take care of the 57. I still feel very attached to that car and I love it when you post pictures of how much nicer you have made it. Tell AJ that it is a special car.

I have a ten year old great grandson, he has been my corvette buddy since he was about six, he enjoys it as much as I do, He cleans it up for the car shows we take it to, if we win a trophy he gets picture taken with it and keeps the trophy, he has a pretty good collection including a few best in show.

He knows already how special and one of a kind it is. The car's getting a new top right now. I hope it doesn't offend but i decided to do a gray/silver canvas top to match the cove. I'll post a pic or 2 when I get it back. Depending on weather (think cold) I may run the New England 1000 in Ortober leaving from Newport RI. in it

Sounds great Joe. I am looking so forward to seeing it. I have a gray top on my Black 2007 and it looks amazing. They used to sit side by side in the garage for years.
