Default Points time replacement

If you go by time, how often should distributor dual points be changed?
I drive my 58 once a month, about 20-miles.
Thanks.

When they don't work any more....keep in mind that they don't make points like they used to, and you're probably better off running the oldest points you can find, that have little wear on them.

If they get oxidized, clean them gently, and keep using them.

Condensers might go bad with time, but they really don't make them like they used to, either.

My guess is that you will never need to replace your points.

I agree, look at the points contact surfaces and if they are OK or could be with a light dressing with a points file then they should be fine. If they have been in there a really long time one thing I might do is is inspect and clean the rubbing block and put a new lubricant coating on it. I helped install an unused NOS dual point Mopar distributor in a friends Hemi car last year - and it had what I guess were 55 year old points and lubricant on them. I installed it right out of the box after checking point gap and I didn’t replace the lubricant (my over site in hindsight) and they were worn flat in less than 100 miles.

R66 has over 10,000 miles on the points I installed 9 years ago and still running strong. I check the dwell and adjust it if needed (adjusted it once). I do need to pull the cap and clean them and lubricate the rubbing block, but I will wait until the engine tells me they need to be changed.
