I have never found any lock washers or flat washers on a factory assembled small block engine from the 60s era. Not saying they are not needed to prevent gouging of the aluminum intakes, but I don't think GM installed them at the factory. Bean Counter Savings you know.

^ Agree. The Corvette vendors make small thin stainless washers for this purpose, that are somewhat unobtrusive. You may still get dinged on judging for using them, if that's a concern.
