Default Understanding engine numbers

I'm trying to find out information on the block numbers to confirm if it came in the original car. Right now I have another motor in the car and came across this block and I am trying to confirm it. The car serial number is 194675S116408 and the numbers I was given for this block are 5116408 (these numbers match the car numbers) C285 (build date Mar 28 1965) it's these next numbers I am not sure about these following numbers F0330HT. Any help would be greatly appreciated before I purchase it.
regards Giulio

F0330HT, F means the engine was assembled at the Flint, MI plant. 0330 is the assembly date, Mar 30, 1965 and HT is the code for which engine it is, 250, 300, 350 HP. The small block guys can help you with that.

There are a few on line facilities to determine the build date of your car. Presumably it's after the 3-30-65 engine assembly date.

That one says it's April 29, 1965.

C285 sounds like the casting date. I assume that's not stamped into the pad on the front of the block, right? It's likely cast in on the rear.

The HT suffix denotes a 350HP motor installed in a Corvette.

If you found that on the back of the block, it is the date the block was cast.

OK Giulio...what's the rest of the story. How did you just happen to "come across this block" that just happens to match your VIN?

Post a clear/sharp photo of engine's stamp pad. Photo may clear up any issues.

The guy I bought the car from called me about it. I am going to see it this week and will follow up after I see it.

The broach marks look hand-made to me. That calls into question the validity of the code stamped into the pad.

Caveat: I don't claim to be an expert on engine pads. Just callin' it like I see it.

No one typically removes a 'good running' engine for no reason. If that is your old block, there was a reason it wasn't in the car when you bought it.
As for that crack, did it cause the main cap bolt to loosen up and that's why that block is now bare and not still in your 65?
At least take it to a machine shop you trust and have them look it over first before committing.

Your absolutely right the original motor made a noise that he heard and stopped the car and got it towed home. I believe him we have developed a friendship ever since I bought the car. I am contacting some engine builders and machine shops around to see if it can be repaired than decide how to proceed.
