How can I determine (prior to a judging event) if this shifter pattern is original or a repro? Anyone out there have a KNOWN original shift pattern they'd be willing to sell me?
I seem to recall reading somewhere that with original shift pattern plates gradually thinned closer to the edge with a smooth round radius, whereas more current repops have a sharp 90 degree break. Of course I can't find this information right now so maybe I'm just imagining this??? Does anyone out there remember this description???
My best guess is aftermarket. The originals were embossed much deeper than what I see, but photos can be deceiving.
pop23235, on page 39 of the current NCRS judging guide it states: "The shift pattern is de-bossed and silk screened in black on a small brushed aluminum plate..."
You hit the nail on the head because none of the lines or numbers (in the shift pattern I'm holding in my hand) are de-bossed. So, I guess with that bit of info I'm now going to start looking for an original shift pattern plate. Since I am sooo late to the party I'm sure they've all been snatched up by now but if anyone has one please let me know. Thanks.

This one is original.
Pop is right on the money, I must of spent months researching this shift/plaque when I was restoring my console (after I ruined my original during a bubba moment at removal of it:-)..,
I thought it would be a no brainer to find a NOS one, fat chance it’s something I found out only for the 63 model was available in NOS…. I posted some pics years ago on the Forum of repros vs. O.E.
- GOOD NEWS .. so I thought at that time a forum member reached out to me & was very familiar with the process that was used it the making of them & was sure he could duplicate it, he was showing me results of his acid etching process & aluminum blanks (his term) that he was in the middle of making, I offer to buy some & also for his time/materials when he was done his work looked great, but he wasn’t 100%happy with his results he was also making decal’s which were incredible…
I hope he’s O.K. We corresponded with e-mails such very nice individual.. I hope maybe he see’s this post he was so close to duplicating the 4spd. 64-67 shift pattern badges/plaques.. would still love to have one
Regards
Chalie
I have one of my 67, but really no idea of originality. The rest of the interior seems pretty original, no signs of a restoration, and the previous owner had the car since the mid-80s….
the main surround was scratched, so I bought and installed a “ kit”…
the new set is definitely deeper inset than the one I pulled off…. Can’t really catch my fingernail, but definitely recessed where the black paint goes. Edges are slightly rolled.
but mine does appear to have thin, double-sided tape.

Leif, I'm guessing from L78's post, the plate he's holding is the plate he removed from his shifter console when he replace it with the kit he purchased??? Is this presumption correct L78?
