"AW" is a 3.08 rear from 68-69, 71, or 73-75 ("CAW" was a 3.08 in 70 and no "AW" in 72 because the 3.08 wasn't offered). "110" is the Julian date for 110th day of the year, "E" is Eaton (the Posi maker) and the "1" is the first shift. The case will have a date cast into it which will tell you the year.
It's hard to tell from the picture but a digit seems to be missing. Normally there's a "W" between the ratio code and the Julian date to identify the rear as coming from Warren MI. Is it possible that there's another "A" in front of the "AW" (making the axle code "AA"), this would mean the rear's a 71-75 3.55?
Guess I should have posted this along with my last post but can someone please read and explain this diff code for me?
Thanks in advance.
AW 110 E 1
It is not the original diff, so you figure ratio by counting the pinion to axle turns, but you won't know how it is built unless pull the cover and take a look at the gear date code, posi case type, and if any work was done to it.
