I want to install an O2 sensor in my 61 with two fours before I overhaul them, it has been 22 years since they were last done.
I have the A/F tester and I want to make any adjustments to the jetting that might be needed.
It is a little tight under there so I could either mount it horizontal or vertical at 10 o'clock, see pics.
All the info I have come across say's to mount it between 6-12" from the collector in a horizontal pipe.
Any thoughts?
i would put it as close to the manifold / front pipe connection as possible , when gm first started using a O2 sensor alot of them where in the manifold by the connection , the closer to the engine the better

I think you'd be well served by locating the O2 sensor in the horizontal section of the head pipe.
The sensor controller regulates the temperature to within a very narrow range so the sensor produces an accurate signal. Too hot or too cool and it won't work properly. If you locate the sensor too close to the engine, excess exhaust heat may overheat the sensor such that the controller can't do its job.
Also, locate the sensor in the upper half circle of the horizontal pipe to prevent moisture condensation from damaging it.
