Several years ago I replaced the dash wiring harness on my 63 convertible. In the harness, behind the cluster, is a wire and socket I've never been able to identify.
It is a single black wire with a light socket that is the same as the dash lights. Is that for an option my car may not have like high rev. warning?

Both cigarette lighter and ignition switch have night lights when light switch is on. As mentioned, turn switch on in dark garage and see if either light up. begee22
Nope. Those are accounted for. This is a single black wire with the same socket as used on the dash lights.
if you ground the case of the socket, does it light with the dash lights?
P.S. I've never owned a 63, but the diagram shows a single black wire going from the park brake warning switch to a bulb socket which is grounded when plugged into the cluster to light up the "brake" light when key on and park brake set. Later C2's bulb had 12v with two wires and one was grounded by setting the park brake, but the 63/64 diagram shows the voltage going to the switch first and then passed on to the bulb via a black wire.

Where is the location of this wire? Left-hand side of the instrument cluster right hand side of the instrument cluster. Or in the center near the clock or near the passenger side of the car do you have a picture of it. I have several original 63 harnesses And several new harnesses and none of them have a black wire with a light bulb socket. The tach warning buzzer is a separate harness, so it’s certainly not that.
The wire exits the harness on the right side of the instrument cluster. It is not the parking brake warning as that socket is plastic and is accounted for. Inserting a bulb and turning on the lights does not illuminate the bulb when grounded. It looks just like an instrument cluster light but with a black wire.
Also. Does anyone know what the push-button is for on my parking brake mounting? It is spring loaded and has 2 electrical terminals on the back. I don't know if its factory or something someone rigged up years ago.
Pictures always help when asking questions. Pictures of this mysterious wire, as well as, a picture of your brake handle with the button. Hard to get a handle (no pun intended) on what you're wanting to know without pictures.
Possibly the harness came with both type connectors for the park brake. The earlier cars would not have used a plastic bulb socket. No bulb would light up with a single wire and a plastic socket. If the circuit was changed to the newer style, it might just be an extra wire. Only you know if any light is not working that should. If everything works, I'd tape it off and forget it.
