283 engine cuts off
Last year I bought a 59 Corvette, 283 with Holley 600 cfm. Has Pertronix Flamethrower II module and coil installed by a skilled reputable shop. Have also replaced starter, battery and added alternator, new plugs and wires. Today while driving, suddenly between 1800 and 2000 rpms the engine would suddenly die. In most cases , shifting a lower gear and acceleration to about 3000 to rpm’s, the engine would smooth out and then intermittently repeat if rpm’s fell were between 1800- 2000. In a 5 mile trip the car cut off four times but immediately refired. Base timing is 17 And 32-33 respectively. Carb is getting fuel.

If the engine dies suddenly and completely, the problem is almost certainly of electrical origin.
Personally, I'd look with a suspicious eye at that Pertronix equipment. But that's just me.

Jim is correct. 90% of issues like these are ignition in origin. Substitute a point/condenser distributor and I will bet your problem disappears.
