Default FI help

I have a fuel injection set up that needs to gone over.. is this something I can tackle myself, or should it be left to a specialist? my concern with doing it myself is that it may be a bit too nuanced for my skill set, and honestly I'd like it to work right the first time! I'm in Los Angeles, does anyone have any suggestions for someone that can handle the job? I have 2 sets ups to work with, one complete , the other is all taken apart. The distributor looks good, but i suspect that will need to be gone through as well- I also have a fair amount of NOS GM fi parts . shoot me message if you have any suggestions, or are willing to have a conversation about it? Thanks!

To the best of my knowledge, Gary Hodges has stopped taking in new work.

John DeGregory, one of the nicest and most honest people you'll ever meet, is the only rebuilder I know of who was factory trained(!) on FI. He's been doing FI units longer than anyone. I'm pretty sure he did the FI unit on Ben Hur's chariot.

Your choices are John DeGregory, Jim Lockwood, Lyle Davidson, Futo and Son, Gary Hodges, Ken Hansen and a guy in Indiana that you should steer clear of.
You did not state what model injectors you had or distributor, there should be a model ID tag on the air meter side.
I would do a quick inspection of the distributor gearbox by removing the model plate secured with 4 screws. If the gears have a brass color probably OK if dark or black it was starved for oil sometime in the past.

John DeGregory is a longtime FI specialist is located in Greensburg, Pennsylvania (724) 832-3786
Jim Lockwood is a forum member and is in northern California is an FI expert, contact him via PM.
Lyle Davidson is probably the youngest of the ones listed and reproduces the 63-65 plenum lid and the fuel meter cover. Lyle Davidson is located in Leesburg Virginia 571-224-8830
Futo and Son is located in Scottsdale Arizona, Futo and Son Website
Gary Hodges is located in Salem Oregon Gary Hodges Website
Ken Hanson is located in Medina Tennesse
Jerry Bramlett retired and is no longer available.

If your unit is in need of an axial link, I would source one from Frank Antonicelli. The phone numbers I have listed are old and may no longer be valid.
Whoever you choose be sure to ask if they do an on car running driving test.

Didn't Lyle buy out of the long time FI rebuilders to get his start. A long time ago at a chapter meet I believe he did a tech seminar on FI units and explaining how a young guy got into it. John will be at Carlisle this week so he might not answer his phone

You might want to try to locate the brochure on rebuilding the units for your year and learn as much about the unit yourself. The cost of having these guys look at it and go over It is unbelievable, if you are good with mechanical things they are not that difficult if you follow step-by-step. You will need a couple of specialty tools.

How much taller is the fuel injection distributor than say a regular 1964/5 distributor?
*or*
Can someone get me a measurement of there's, say from the mounting surface to the top of the cap??

Thanks in advance!

There is a spacer with a locating dowel the sits between the base plate and the bottom of the distributor.
