So the wife saw a 54 and somehow we ended up with one. Never thought I would be lucky enough to have one old corvette much less two. Always been a C2 coupe guy, but the 54 is very sexy.
The car needs just a small bit of help, starting with why does the drag link rub on the generator? Anyone have an idea where to start?
thank you, supposed to be 1/4-6 black cars, but without a trim tag, who knows, the wife likes it and she's super cute driving it, car could be her grandpa
Ok so I think I solved one mystery, it looks like the generator belt was either too big or had stretched and it was at the end of it's travel. New issue though and other bone head question. Car got hot, what happened is the steering rubbed on the generator fan, which somehow made the harmonic balancer come loose, lucky I didn't lose it. It played nice and was sitting against the radiator, so very lucky.
Ok, is there a bolt for the harmonic balancer or is it press fit? Any idea where I can get the woodriff key that goes in the crank? Thank you all!
Got it! No bolt, ordered replacement parts, need to get momma's car back on the road
If your radiator is still out and enough is out of the way why not drill that crank in the car. I did it in a 58 & a 63. The bolt dosent have to be a 7/16 like chevy used. A grd 8 3/8-24 will be just fine. Even if you replace that balancer the crank could be undersized now.
You have to like standing on your head while operating a rotating machine but thats part of it.
