A lot has been discussed about what ignition wires to install. Myself and others have recommended Beldon in earlier posts. Today, after my fuel unit rebuild that I performed with the help of Jim Lockwood, I put the engine on my scope.
At idle the ignition system is using between 20 and 25K to fire the spark plugs, that leaves very little in reserve for power.
I checked a coil wire and a spark plug wire against Beldon of the similar length.
The first pic
Coil wire, 7.67K
Coil wire Beldon, 2.55K
42" plug wire, 36.3K
42" Beldon, 9.6K
Belden produced some very high quality products for sure. Standard ignition bought out the Belden company from Federal-Mogul about 20 years ago. Not sure if the quality is the same today, I hope it is. The Ohm test sure makes them look great. What I liked is the wires worked good but they were also tough. Held up well in the long term.
