Default Ignition Switch

A little help from the forum. My 67 427/400 hp has a small battery drain. I noticed that the radio would stay on even when the ignition switch was in the off position and the key was removed. I removed the ignition switch from the dash and started to test it. My question is should I have continuity from the IGN contact to the ACC contact with the key turned to the ACC position? I don’t and

see a little indication of some heat at that area of the switch.
Thanks in advance.

You should NOT have continuity between the ACC terminal and the IGN terminal with the switch in the accessory position. You should have continuity to the BAT terminal, though. You should have continuity to all 3 in the ON position. Your battery drain is most likely through the alternator. When the ACC terminal is hot, the alternator field coil is energized. GM cars of the same era would have the GEN lamp on dimly with the switch in the ACC position. If your accessories work when the switch is OFF, there's your drain.

Thanks so much for the reply Avispa. I found the problem and thought I would share it. I totally disconnect the ignition switch and the #4 brown wire from the regulator and radio still had power. Disconnected the bulk head plug the #4 wire still had power. Had to be the regulator even thou it was new I bought another solid state one this time and no more power at the radio and #4 wire. I’ve determined that the voltage regulator had a coil closed and was leaking voltage to the #4 wire and radio. No more battery drain and running great.
Thanks again Don

I’m glad you fixed your problem, but I don’t see how the radio got power with the bulkhead connector disconnected. That’s where the voltage comes from.
