I've seen 1962's with painted headlight bezels and also with chrome bezels and fender spears. Did they come with either or is the chrome a holdback from the '61?
Which is correct?
Bob's info is correct. I have both 59 and a 62. On my recently completed restoration of my 62, I toyed with the idea of putting chrome ones on. I think they look better than the painted. They really brighten up the car seeing how much of the chrome is gone from the 62's. I painted mine so I have a pair that matches my paint work. I may still find a set of chrome ones.
For what it is worth, to further brighten up the car a bit, I dod not do the black out behind the front bumper. Some future owner after I am buried can make it more 'correct' if they want and black it out. Also, the disc under the medallion on the trunk, the 62 is black finish. The 59 is spun aluminum and bright. I replaced the black with the bright one. Again.. small changes that can be easily reverted back if someone was so inclined. But just those 2 small things really brighten the 62 up (IMO). Cheers - Jim
We've all seen it both ways and you will find photos of both on this forum. I've seen a black restomod, that had chrome headlight bezels and grill teeth and it looked outstanding. I like the extra chrome, but I'll keep mine stock looking.
61 and 62 were always painted body color, 58-60 were chrome. You can put the 58-60 on 61 and 62 .Bob
Be aware that if you put a chrome bezel on a 62, you may have a gap between the fender top spear and the bezel as the painted ones had a short extension. You can either live with it or move the top chrome forward ~1"
This is what was on my '62 when I bought it in 1974. I was just wondering what year it was off of. I like the chrome & grey look rather than the painted bezels. The '62 as it is now.
