The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
As Don said...pictures would be great. I think your friend is confused, though. Here's my thought. He thinks he has an L88 427 cui in/450 hp "special high performance engine", with the "side pipes shipped in the car" and the engine is one of the 116 produced for the 1969 model year. How's that for a stretch??
.It does have side pipes that the previous owner told him they were installed by dealer and factory just shipped them in car.
The L79 was the Special High Performance 327 engine in 1967, but it’s 350hp (not 450hp). 6,375 Corvettes has the L79 in 1967.
Optionsl equipment ( such as engines) are well documented with individual production quantities known.
Correct me if I am wrong, but highest HP 4-barrel 327 was the 365hp, but that was no longer available after 1965 model year.
1964/1965 327 Fuelie was 375hp…
1970 350 LT-1 was only 370hp, and was the highest hp small block (of the classic era)
side exhaust was a factory installed option, so there’s no reason for the “ factory” to ship in the car, but I am sure the dealer would be happy to upgrade if it wasn’t ordered…
” previous owner told him…”. There’s your problem, he is believing what the previous owner told him…
One thing we know; more tall tales fly around old Corvettes than any other collectible cars, by far. I'm still trying to figure out why that is.
