Block casting says September 20, 1962. Car was completed on October 20, 1962. Stamp pad was decked off and I'm wondering about when the engine would have been assembled?

Do the heads roughly match the casting date of the block (date under the valve covers)? The month-long span between casting and car completion is a little long, but well inside the accepted span. What we usually see is the engine assembly about 2-7 days after casting and 3-10 days prior to the car's completion date. The casting had to be transported from Saginaw to Flint (just 37 miles), then the assembled engine had to make its way from Flint, MI, to St. Louis, MO (540 miles).
I don't know if anyone has done any analysis of the performance options when looking at engine casting to engine assembly to car completion. It would be interesting to see if fuelies or 2x4s had a longer or shorter span than base engines – meaning were they built only when orders came in (short span) or were they batched and stockpiled (longer span). What is the configuration of your engine?

I can only give you my build info which aligns with 67:72 info.

Hope this helps.

Per John Z. "NCRS allows full judging credit for up to six months prior to the car's final assembly date for the block casting date, although that's not "typical".
I think your dates are a very acceptable match. My 62 dates are spaced even a little longer.
Your car is a very late build as they were almost building 63's by then and I'm sure production could have gotten a little funky towards the end of a production run.
