You can only bring them along so far, after that you take off the training wheels and they are on their own. Our son went with a Nissan 300ZX, which I have to say isn't a terrible selection. Naturally I'd prefer him to be into corvettes, but at 35 he's more than able to make his own choices. (I must say, his Z runs like a raped ape! )
Don, you're right about that, but my devious plan is to saturate the baby's growing-up years with Sting Ray-themed onesies (he already has three with a 67 Vette on them), T-shirts (ditto), toys, blankies, bibs, push cars, pedal cars, Christmas ornaments and so forth. Once he's big enough, I can take him slowly around the block while revving the engine a lot and shifting needlessly, followed some time later by his steering while on my lap in a parking lot. If I live long enough I'll show him how to work a clutch and do a tune up. By then he should be a Sting Ray guy through and through. If, instead, he wants to buy an EV then that's his choice, even though I'll be sitting in the garage alternately sobbing and tossing my cookies.
Lou, my first GF (back in the '60s) had a nephew that was about 2 1/2. I had a '59, and then a '67, while dating her. Even at that age, he could identify VW's and "Corbettes". Granted, he only had C1's and C2's to learn, but the kid never missed one on the road. I sometimes wonder if he grew up to have his own.
Oh Yeah! In my garage with friends over or at any cruise night.....when I see a young kid admiring my car I always invite the parents to place the kid in the driver's seat ....or both seats as I step off frame for them to take a quick photo. Want to beep the horn ? Certainly LOL !
