I just started one of my 65 327s and after it was running the starter stayed engaged and the engine could not be shut off with the key. I had to disconnect the battery to shut it off.
This sounds like an ignition switch failure, but could it be a wiring issue?

Thanks,

I had this problem with my '64. The problem was the solenoid. The lugs on the solenoid were loose, which apparently caused an internal short that kept the solenoid extended and the starter engaged. And, since the solenoid was extended, the coil was getting power from the wire that runs from the solenoid to the coil; therefore turning the key off had no effect. In my case, all it took was tightening the lugs on the solenoid.
Another, similar, possibility is the starter staying engaged due to a misalignment or some "hooking" of the flywheel/flexplate teeth that prevents it from retracting.
Thanks, it’s a recently rebuilt original starter. It probably only started the car 10 or 15 times, so it may have been assembled wrong. I‘ll check it out.
