Default Speedometer Attachment 1962

The bottom 2 screws that attach the speedometer to the instrument cluster are missing in my 62. The speedometer is only held in place by the top bracket. Will it be necessary for me to remove the dash/instrument cluster to put these 2 screws in? Or can I wiggle my hands up there to install the screws? What thread size are these screws? Thanks.

Are you talking about these two, circled in yellow?

I just removed/replaced the speedometer on my wife's 62 and I did not have to completely remove the cluster. I was able to lift and tilt the cluster enough to remove/replace the entire speedometer including those two screws. In my case I disconnected the oil pressure/ammeter pod so that I did not have to detach the oil pressure line.

I think they're 10-24 screws, but it's been half a year since I had them in my hands. I could be wrong.

They will be challenging to install with the cluster in place. Finding screws with a head that makes installation easier might help...perhaps socket head screws, with a ball hex driver?

It's almost impossible to do anything back there in place. It's a hand slicing nightmare.

I wrote an article on R & R of the cluster with pictures. PM me your email address.

Thanks for the responses. I was dreading removing the dash cluster just to install 2 screws!

They originally used Phillips. Washer head screws. Should be able to get started with a small. Screw starter then find the right driver to snug them up. No need to over-tighten, they will hold!
