Default Anti Theft

We all know the car should not be left "unattended". We have all left the car and gone into the store to grab 2 quick items. What is everyone using for anti theft other than the Club which is a deterrent?

good insurance and knowing the area where your parking. most if not any theft deterrent can be disabled in a few short seconds by someone who really wants your car

There are many simple ways to install a rudimentary theft device, but I have long since jettisoned the idea of using my cars as grocery-getters. They are nothing more than an attractive nuisance, and while theft is of paramount concern to all of us, to a lesser extent I don't need the occasional belt buckle scratch on the body by some overzealous onlooker, or someone parking next to me who fails to keep his/her door a safe distance from mine. Just sayin'.

In the not much but something department my ‘64 has an AirTag installed. The AirTag speaker was removed so the device doesn’t chirp. I think it’s hidden well enough. Enough to make a difference…..dunno.

When I used to drive my GS455 clone everywhere and anywhere in the 90s including downtown Boston on Saturday nights, I had a few things set up. The hood release was on a quick disconnect and I had two ways to electrically disable the coil, one under the dash and one under the hood, that looked as if the wiring was correct and everything else worked. Took me about a minute to do it or remedy it. Then the hood release arm came with me. Made it hard to get under the hood but not impossible, and then it would take more time to figure out how I had it wired in the car and under the hood. The idea was to make it take about 15 minutes to swipe the car- and the person would need to know those cars- which is much longer than I reckoned anyone is likely to spend.

None of that would stop a tow truck. None of it deterred a vandal. I never had a problem though.

I seem to remember that on a previous post it was said that in Texas you could shoot someone if they tried to steal your car. Is that really true?

Hurray for Texas!! In the state of thieves, IL, you have to prove the thief that breaks into your home is going to cause you deadly harm before you can shoot them. Of course the thieves are requiring registering of center fire weapons so they can come and get them if the thief says you threatened him. All to save the children like Hitler did.

I got an Apple Air Tag today and removed the beeper and will hide it in my ‘67.I understand it has to be within a certain proximity to a Bluetooth transmitter to work but if it is it will work from anywhere in the world. There is a link to a story attached to another thread posted today about a guy in Toronto who had his suv with an Air Tag in it stolen and he traced it to Saudi Arabia. My car is never out of my sight so I am not too worried about it.
2 of the 5 Corvettes I have owned were stolen and never seen again. In the ‘60’s and early ‘70’s there was a nearby county that was the stolen car capital of the US and I suspect they wound up there. If you went in there you were lucky if you just got your butt kicked.Think about the movie Deliverance.

We’re not going to let Texas get like some of these lawless states, if I can help it!

You'd need to be guarding the vehicle, which is not the scenario. Your SIG is as effective as a wiffle ball bat.

Maybe he leaves it on the seat while he goes into the store to let the thief know his vette is packing.

I’m careful where I park but sometimes it can’t be avoided, so I lock the car, do the battery cutoff, and carry insurance and then try not to worry about it.

I actually went nuts on trying to slow the thieves down. Battery disconnect under the hood, two kill switches (one in cockpit and one under the hood), steering lock under the hood, Club on wheel, motion sensor alarm, 4 speed, locking hood.
All worthless to stop a pro, so it becomes an NCM insurance problem.

I am not tech literate, but thought air tag beepers could only be turned off. How do you remove the beeper?

I do everything wrong with my 62. I leave the ignition switch in the "off" position instead of "lock". I leave it with the top down all the time at stores, etc. I park overnight at hotels in bad neighborhoods all over the country, although I put up the soft top and lock the doors when I do that. I don't have full coverage, only liability, so if someone steals it, I'm screwed. I don't have any weapons (they mostly get used to commit suicide, if you read the statistics).

But I do have an automatic shift pattern plate, even though the car has a muncie and clutch pedal.

If they want it, they're gonna take it. Life is short, drive the car, enjoy it, don't worry so much.

Anyone willing to work harder to steal your baby than you’re willing to work to keep it will be successful.
I come from a warriors mindset.
If you boost it off the streets shame on me.
If you try and remove me from it than we are both going to the ER.
Carrying a gun is like carrying an umbrella
when you bring it it never rains.
Im 61 and have been legally carrying since 23.
Ive deterred a crack head once and he yielded to the muzzle pointed at him. Win win.
Pray for peace prepare for war.
Just sayin….
