Just got my new Corvette Central catalog. It says on page 138 that "The RH mirror was a dealer-installed option, not factory."
Holy. xxxx!! Is that true? I've always wanted a RH mirror but also wanted to keep my 1966 "authentic".
If this is true, I'm ordering tomorrow!!! Oh, they state this is true for 1963-67.
Can anyone confirm this?
If you are more concerned with placing it as the driver side is/ looks, then disregard the fact it will need to be mounted a little different so the vent window vertical frame doesn't partially block your view. Dennis
As Dennis commented, having the second mirror in the same fore/aft location as the driver's side does result in the rear of the vent window frame just slightly obscuring the left-most edge of the mirror's face. I simply move my head the the right a little bit to reduce the angle of incidence if I care about seeing that small part of the glass. Mounting the second mirror slightly farther aft will eliminate the eclipsing, but you might not care as much for how it looks when you're standing outside of the car looking at it.
leif here is anther page from the same book showing the luggage rack for a dealer installed Corvette. If you have other GM dealer add on books showing a part number I am all ears. I don't have all five years of this book I only have it for 66.
the parts guy would go by the part number. so if you can find a GM parts book dated from 63-67 with it listed
I'm not arguing that there was a part number for a passenger mirror, or that the dealer options officially listed that mirror anywhere. for any year for any car. Your scenario is trying to order a dedicated Corvette passenger side mirror which was not my premise at all. I never suggested that they were trying to order a passenger side mirror, or anything else that had no part number.
I said that somebody with cash in hand, asking the dealership to put a mirror on the passenger side of their Corvette would not be refused due to that official list. That is not the same thing as ordering a passenger mirror. "The book" wouldn't stop them from making that couple of bucks with a very straightforward job that used all GM parts that they knew they could order from their parts department. If the parts guy couldn't figure that one out he'd be handed a broom.

yes, I get what you're saying but to say it was "dealer" option is false. (unless there are other GM docs not shown here).
using the web site gmpartswiki.com part number 512016 does not exist so to further research this we would need to know more about this part number
It looks like a company named Z06 produced the GM reproduction and that may be their part number. The box I received had a Zip label over the original.
Keith,
Maybe I should have stated that the passenger side outside mirror was a "dealer installed item" instead of "dealer installed option". I had one installed on a '65 coupe back in 1972 at the dealership. Bottom line, you couldn't order a new C2 from the factory with a passenger side rearview mirror.
I can confirm with certainty that my first SWC that I purchased from the original female owner had a new 'dealer installed luggage rack' and fact #2 my recently sold SWC had a new 'dealer installed right side rear view mirror'! I know what I know to be factual, period. begee22
Keith is 100% correct. There was no factory nor dealer accessory mirror available for any of those years. Sure, the reproduction warehouses and retail outfits and say what ever they like and reproduce or produce parts that will fit, but they are not correct. All those accessory books when they list outside rear view mirrors are for the driver’s side or part of a package for the driver’s side, not passenger and not Corvette. Not until 1966 was the right hand mirror offered as an accessory and still not for Corvette. Paul.
