I assumed the ground strap would connect at the upper mounting bolt of the starter, but none of the pictures that I have seen seem to do so and I cannot find any written reference one way or the other. Where does the ground strap run to, chassis, motor or what? I appreciate any input.
You are talking about the battery negative cable? Bolt it to the engine. Electrically, it doesn't matter to which engine bolt it attaches. Pick something convenient.
Thanks, I am not really concerned about the quality of the connection. I assumed without asking that a judge would be looking for proper placement so let me change the question, does it matter for judging where the ground strap is connected?

HA! Well, given that it's only a 6 Volt system, you should be!
That said, Chris Sherman is your friend WRT judging points.
I'm a practical individual. I will connect the battery cables where they will assure the greatest amount of cranking current.
The battery ground strap is connected to the back of the transmission - in behind the dipstick tube
Remove all the paint on the transmission
sequence is bolt, lock washer, dipstick tube, negative cable, transmission.
Thank you for that Chris, I appreciate the detail, it's exactly what I was looking for. As always, your expertise is appreciated.
Jim, I didn't phrase the response very well, I've had my share of 6 volt vehicles over the years and recognize the importance that you stress of a good ground. What I meant to say was I have a good understanding of how to properly ground, I'm now just looking for the where. Thanks.
