Hey everyone, so my C1 is a new family member and still learning her. But recently, after an engine rebuild and big rain, (car covered by tarp) the doors were locked via key entry, and now I can’t get them open. Seems like the locking mechanism is stuck. Any ideas how to repair and open?
I'd bet the key is worn out. Those locks are so "cheezy" try spraying some WD40 in there and then jiggling the key as you lightly try to turn it. Once you get it open it might be time for a new lock set (all 5). I once locked my keys in my trunk at a car show. Tried the jiggle trick with another C1 owners keys and it opened right up.
I have a "Slim Jim" that all of the police carried by in the day. It is a thin piece of SS metal that has notches in the side to catch the latch arm and pull up to release the lock. If needed, I will post a picture and dimensions for you to make one - later.
you could provide a little more detail....when you insert the key, does the key turn either way? If the lock cylinder is not moving because it's the wrong key, then it won't turn either way. If the latch is stuck then the key will turn one way, but not the other.

Also, since you can't get in, I presume we are talking about both doors?
Sounds like the PO may have changed out the locks and you didn't get the key or they were seldom used.
Here is the Steck Mfg. Slim Jim, but you can make one or try a piece of #9 wire with a hook on it.
