Default Bare iron diff

Just sharing the present build. A 69 diff that is being build "correct" externally and custom built internally for the best of both worlds.

Outside of 63's the diff's were bare iron and flashed before the customer bought the car.

Here are before and after pictures, the bare iron has already been treated for rust protection without scarifying the appearance.

Looks fantastic! What did you use to clean it? What is flashed?

My car was left natural iron like the after in your photos, but apparently no clear coat was used to all iron items have a light coating of rust now. I will not be taking the differential apart, but looking for the best or easiest way to return to a natural finish.

That took me hours of scraping, blasting and wire brushing.
I used RPM as you can see in this picture.

By flashed I mean exactly what you said happened to your diff

Thanks GTR. I like the word "Flashed" to describe what happens to bare metal when it starts rusting, but I never heard that term........................makes perfect sense. Beautiful job!

Likewise. Gary's posts are always of interest to me. I hadn't previously heard of the RPM product. Thanks for the mention of it, Gary.

Live well,

I’ve used RPM on a few items and it seems to do a good job. I’ve also used Boeshield T-9 which is a Boeing aerospace product for rust and corrosion protection (I know - Boeing is not exactly as respected as it once was). It’s a spray product. Something else that can work is the old Calyx Manifold dressing. My master cylinder showed a bit of light rust peaking through the cast gray paint and I treated it with Calyx which gives a bare steel appearance and it’s been good for many years now.
