the vent window regulators on my '66 coupe are odd. the drivers side handle rolls forward to open, just like the side glass, so I assume that is normal. the passenger side vent handle rolls backward to open, the opposite of the side glass, so I'm guessing that is wrong. the regulator on the passenger side has been into at some point. the driven gear is available as a reproduction and there is only one listed for either side. the drive gear is not listed. I'm guessing someone put a left side drive gear in place. before I drop a couple hundred bucks on a new regulator, I want to see if my assumptions are correct. the vent window works fine, I just want it to operate correctly.
I honestly don't recall which way the vents turn, but I don't think I'd take it apart and spend the money to make a change if they open and close correctly. I didn't think they would mount on the wrong side. The holes shouldn't line up and the shaft shouldn't fit through the hole in the door panel. I sold the 65 so I can't check it for you.

one side turns backward from the other. just one of those things that bugs me....lol!
What you describe is how mine are as well. I have a '66 and the passenger side vent opens by cranking clockwise just like the driver side. My side glass cranks: Driver side clockwise to open; Passenger side counter clockwise to open.
I think it's how they all were.
