Default '54 Door Catch

Anybody know if the door catch on a '54 can be adjusted? Both the star wheel and the guide bar (or whatever the correct name for it is) have some play in them. They rattle against the door strike

when I drive and it's pretty annoying

There is no adjustment
Only adjustment is the catch on the body

Yeah...the door is aligned. Both the star wheel and the bar below it have play in them. The passenger side is nice and tight. I was hoping maybe there was some sort of way to tighten them up from the back side.

A couple of thoughts. You say there is play in the alignment bar and the star as if the whole assembly moves (the star can rotate on its own and has some play there). If that is the case, it seems to imply that those components aren't fully secured. I noticed it appears in your pic you have a Allen key type screw holding those components in place (your pic shows 2, should be three all together). I'm wondering (as that isn't the original screw) if it is bottoming out into the part itself and thus not seating those parts firmly into the door and thus the origin of the play your experiencing. I've attached a pic of my door (passenger) and those appear to be the original screws for it (Phillips head). I haven't taken this component out so I don't know if it is a blind hole or threaded hole straight through though. If it is a blind hole, I would say a shorter screw or trim down the one you have. One other thought, is it possible that the threads are stripped in the screw or the part and hence the weak fit? I did try to go through the door section of the weak AIM for the 1954 Corvette, but it actually doesn't show that particular assembly itself.
