Shop to strip & paint a 59
I have a friend who is a semi-retired body man. He no longer takes on large jobs. His friend has a 59 Corvette that was painted by another shop and the paint is literally falling off. The owner is looking for a good body shop in Central Illinois area to disassemble, strip, and paint the 59. We don't know what the first shop did wrong, stripper or sealer, etc.
Does anyone know of a reputable shop in Central Illinois doing Corvette restoration?
Thanks
Ron

Chris Sherman in Plano, Il. Look up the cars he has done on the forum. They are outstanding. His username is csherman.

I really don't know. Being 3rd in line, I just will collect the information and pass it down to my friend. Both of these gentlemen are older than I am (if you can believe that) so they don't get on the computer. Can you send me contact information that I can have the owner contact the right person.
I would want to know what the previous shop used for a stripper, wash after stripping, sealer, primer, and final top coat system as well as pictures. I don't think any one could price the job without that knowledge.

Yea, I have seen the threads of Chris' work and find it fabulous. I think I am going to have to drive up to the guys house, only 40 miles or so, and get pictures and talk to him first hand. He may be willing to ship the car hundreds of miles or want someone in his small town. I don't have enough details to help.
I have found the 3 local Corvette clubs in the area and will give him the contact information also.
